McMaster University’s Engineering program has a common first year, which I actually appreciated—it gave me time to explore different disciplines before choosing my stream. It’s definitely rigorous, and the workload can be intense, but it pushes you to think critically and manage your time well. The community is collaborative rather than competitive, and there are plenty of design teams and clubs to get involved in. Overall, it’s demanding but rewarding if you’re ready to put in the effort.

As a graduate of the Integrated Biomedical Engineering & Health Sciences program, I found it to be a great mix of engineering, health, and real-world problem solving. The program is project-heavy, so you build practical skills fast, and the interdisciplinary focus really sets you apart. It’s challenging, but it prepares you well for industry, grad school, or professional programs.
