The Electrical Engineering Technology program at Mohawk College offers a comprehensive and hands-on learning experience focused on electrical power control systems. With a one-year co-op term, students gain practical, real-life experience that is highly valued by employers. This program covers essential areas of electrical engineering, including electrical and electronic systems, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), industrial networks, control systems, and electrical power generation, protection, and control systems.
Students will receive training in both theory and laboratory practice, developing expertise in analyzing and solving complex technical problems related to electrical systems using mathematics and science principles. They will gain proficiency in designing, assembling, testing, and maintaining electrical equipment and systems, while also working with industry partners in real-world settings, such as a decommissioned substation.
By the end of the program, students will be equipped to design, install, and troubleshoot electrical power systems and telecommunication systems, while adhering to industry best practices and safety standards. They will also develop critical skills in project management, technical reporting, and quality assurance under the supervision of qualified professionals.

- Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent.
What You’ll Learn
- Analyze, interpret, and produce electrical and electronics drawings, technical reports, and other related documentation and graphics.
- Solve complex technical problems related to electrical systems using mathematical and scientific principles.
- Design, assemble, test, modify, maintain, and commission electrical systems and equipment to meet specified requirements.
- Troubleshoot and commission static and rotating electrical machines, along with associated control systems, under qualified supervision.
- Apply computer tools and skills to address and solve a variety of electrical-related problems and enhance system functionality.
- Adhere to health and safety standards while performing tasks in compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and industry best practices.
