Okanagan College’s Plumbing and Piping Trades Foundation program provides students with the essential knowledge and hands-on skills needed to begin a career in the piping trades. Designed for individuals with little or no prior experience, this 25-week (750-hour) program prepares students to enter the workforce as apprentice plumbers, steamfitters/pipefitters, or sprinkler system installers. The curriculum emphasizes both theoretical understanding and practical application, introducing learners to residential, commercial, and industrial piping systems. Students gain experience in installation, repair, and maintenance practices while learning to meet industry codes and safety standards.
Following the SkilledTradesBC guidelines, the program covers all first-year in-class components of apprenticeship training in the three piping trades. This approach allows students to explore different areas of the industry before committing to a specific career path. Upon successful completion, graduates receive Level 1 technical training credit toward an apprenticeship, positioning them for continued growth and advancement within their chosen trade. The program’s balanced blend of classroom learning and hands-on experience ensures that students are well-prepared to contribute effectively and safely in real-world work environments.
