Conestoga College’s Veterinary Technician program is a two-year diploma designed for individuals who are passionate about animal care and interested in pursuing a career in veterinary medicine. The program prepares students to become Registered Veterinary Technicians (RVTs) by combining scientific knowledge with practical, hands-on training. Students build a strong foundation in areas such as animal anatomy, physiology, nutrition, microbiology, and diagnostic imaging, gaining the knowledge required to support veterinarians in providing high-quality care to both small and large animals.
Through simulation models, realistic scenarios, and field placements, students develop essential clinical skills in a humane and supportive learning environment before working directly with live animals. Training includes performing patient examinations, assisting with anesthesia and surgery, producing diagnostic radiographs, and collecting laboratory samples for analysis. Graduates are well prepared to pursue RVT certification and contribute to veterinary teams in a variety of settings, including clinics, research laboratories, animal care facilities, and public health organizations.
