Bachelor of Social Work (BSW)

The Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program prepares students for generalist practice with individuals, families, groups, and communities, grounded in principles of justice, equity, and respect for diversity. Delivered through an accessible and inclusive curriculum, the program fosters a supportive learning environment that emphasizes ethical, caring practice in both local and global contexts. Students develop a strong foundation in social work theories, approaches, and applied skills, equipping them to better understand social injustices and actively contribute to meaningful social change.

The School of Social Work acknowledges that students’ commitment to the field is often shaped by lived experiences with various forms of discrimination, including racism, anti-Black racism, xenophobia, anti-Indigenous racism and colonization, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, classism, and ableism. The program is committed to cultivating a learning community that values diverse perspectives, knowledges, and experiences. Core coursework explores areas such as Indigenous knowledges and decolonizing practice, interviewing and assessment, community organization, group work, organizational practice, theory application, and mental health. Students also select an elective focused on practitioner research or social work with older adults, allowing them to deepen their expertise in a specialized area of interest.

The BSW program offers flexible full-time and part-time study options to suit different lifestyles. The full-time, in-person pathway can be completed in as little as 10 months with a structured schedule of classes and field placements, while the part-time option is primarily online and completed over up to three years. Both options include the same courses and 720 hours of guaranteed practicum placement to support professional training.
