In the MEd (Counselling Psychology) program, students will engage in coursework, a practicum, and a culminating activity, which may include a thesis, project, or capstone. Throughout the program, students will develop strong communication skills for both interpersonal and counselling contexts, while also gaining an understanding of the historical and theoretical foundations of counselling psychology. Students will learn to create and implement effective frameworks for client change interventions and become familiar with various counselling assessment procedures. The program will also provide learners with an in-depth understanding of career counselling, as well as equip them to address professional and ethical issues in the practice, science, and regulation of counselling psychology. Additionally, students will explore gender and cultural considerations in counselling, while gaining valuable experience through supervised practice in counselling psychology settings.

The MEd (Counselling Psychology) program is designed around rigorous adherence to standards, and current ethical professional practice. The emphasis of the program is on the provision of counsellor training for those people who aspire to be a Canadian Certified Counsellor or Registered Psychologist. A background in teaching is not required for admission to the Counselling Psychology major.
