The Master of Nursing – Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner (MN-PHCNP) program at Western University prepares registered nurses for advanced practice roles that combine clinical expertise, leadership, and research-informed decision-making. Offered through a combination of on-site and distance learning, and in collaboration with a consortium of Ontario universities, the program provides both full- and part-time study options to accommodate diverse learner needs. Students engage in rigorous academic coursework and clinical training designed to deepen their understanding of nursing science, theory, and research while cultivating the competencies required for autonomous and collaborative practice. Upon completion, graduates are eligible to write the Canadian Nurse Practitioner Examination (CPNE) and to pursue licensure as Nurse Practitioners in a variety of health care settings.

Emphasizing evidence-based practice, ethical inquiry, and health policy development, the MN-PHCNP program equips students to become leaders in advancing patient care and the nursing profession. Learners develop the ability to analyze and integrate theories, models, and frameworks of advanced nursing practice to provide competent, compassionate care to individuals, families, and communities. Through clinical experiences and scholarly engagement, students contribute to the evolution of health care delivery by applying research findings and fostering collaborative partnerships across disciplines. Graduates of Western University’s MN-PHCNP program are well-prepared to drive innovation, influence policy, and improve health outcomes in primary and community care environments.
