The Master of Social Work (MSW) program at Western University, offered through King’s University College, is a direct-practice (non-thesis) program designed to strengthen the knowledge and skills of social work professionals. With a strong emphasis on applied learning, the program offers a wide range of practice-oriented courses that enable students to connect theory with real-world situations. Students are prepared to work effectively with individuals, families, and groups through coursework that explores practice theories, family development, anti-oppressive approaches, and specialized topics in social work. The program fosters the development of practical, client-centered skills needed for meaningful and responsive social work practice.
The MSW program offers both a one-year and a two-year pathway to accommodate students from different academic backgrounds. The one-year option is designed for graduates of Bachelor of Social Work programs and can be completed over 12 months, while the two-year option provides foundational and advanced training for students with degrees in other disciplines. Across both pathways, students engage in practicum and integration seminars that emphasize experiential learning and the application of advanced practice skills. Through a combination of structured coursework and hands-on experience, graduates are equipped to pursue professional roles that support individuals and communities while contributing to positive social change.
