Successful completion of the Commercial Pilot Program through the St. Catharines Flying Club leads to eligibility for Commercial Pilot Licence (Aeroplane Category) issued by Transport Canada and the issuance of a Certificate of Qualification—Commercial Pilot. The holder of a Commercial Pilot Licence may exercise the privileges of Pilot-in-Command of any aircraft engaged in commercial air services.
Commercial Pilot training is composed of ground school and flight training instruction. The ground school is designed to prepare students for the knowledge requirements for the Commercial Pilot Licence, as the criteria which is established by Transport Canada for the written examination. Flight training instruction is crafted to prepare students for the skill required to obtain a commercial licence for demonstration on the Transport Canada Commercial Pilot flight test.
The tuition, scheduling, and length of training is based on availability and subject to change.
Admission Requirements
- A Private Pilot Licence.
- Students must have graduated High School or be 19 years of age at the start of the program.
- English proficiency test.
- Category 1 Canadian Medical Examination.
Program Requirements
- Two-hundred hours flight training.
- One hundred must be PIC (pilot in command) including twenty hours cross-country.
- Thirty-five hours dual (five hours night, five hours cross-country).
- Twenty hours instrument (ten hours can be simulator).
- Thirty hours solo (five hours night).
- Ground School.
- Successful completion of written and flight exams.

It seems not that long ago we signed up our son up for flying lessons. He went on to get his Private License, night rating, single engine instrument rating Commercial License and Multi-engine rating and Multi-engine instrument. Many thanks to the Instructors and Mike Neave for making this all happen. For those who have an interest in flying the St. Catharines Flying Club is the oldest flying school in Canada, a great training facility for anyone wanting to fly recreationally or make it a career.
