The two-year Veterinary Technician diploma at College of the North Atlantic prepares students to become skilled and compassionate professionals in animal health care. Students learn to work alongside veterinarians to provide emergency and routine care, including preventive medicine, nutrition support, dentistry, laboratory procedures, surgery, and anesthesia. The program covers care for common pets such as cats and dogs, as well as horses, cattle, birds, and exotic species, giving students a broad foundation of practical and technical skills.

Throughout the program, students gain hands-on experience in clinical and laboratory settings, building the confidence to handle a variety of animal patients safely and effectively. The curriculum progresses from foundational knowledge to advanced veterinary skills, including dental procedures, surgical assistance, and care for exotic and laboratory animals. An eight-week clinical placement in the final semester allows students to apply their skills in real veterinary facilities, preparing graduates for a dynamic career with multiple areas of specialization and opportunities for growth in the veterinary field.
