The Bachelor of Indigenous Social Work (HBISW) at Laurentian University is a professional degree that integrates Indigenous worldviews, knowledge systems, and social work practice. Offered both on campus and fully online, the program provides flexibility while preparing students to work effectively with Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities. Accredited by the Canadian Association for Social Work Education (CASWE), it leads to eligibility for registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. Throughout the program, students develop a strong foundation in social welfare and social work applications while gaining in-depth understanding of Indigenous and mainstream theories, as well as Anishnaabe teachings, practices, and perspectives shared by Indigenous faculty and supported by the School of Indigenous Relations.

The program emphasizes holistic practice, relationship-building, and the importance of land, culture, and community, while addressing key themes such as intergenerational trauma, colonization, and decolonization. Students build practical skills through coursework in areas like Indigenous research methodologies, helping relationships, mental health, and community practice, alongside opportunities to explore specialized topics such as conflict resolution, grief and loss, and Indigenous approaches to policy and services. Experiential learning is a central component, with two mandatory field practicums in the third and fourth years totaling 700 hours of supervised experience in real-world settings. This combination of theory and practice equips graduates with the knowledge and skills to support healing, resilience, and positive change within diverse communities.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing offered completely remotely offered in French and recognized in Quebec and Canada. The teachers in this program are very present and available to support the students. When you are admitted, write to the person responsible for schedules, tell them when you want to finish your bacc and how many courses per session and they will plan an action plan for you. Very easy to follow and plenty of space available in the classes, we don't have to log in at 11:59 p.m. to reserve our place in a class. I recommend !!!
