Bachelor of Social Work

The Bachelor of Social Work at Laurentian University is a four-year Honours program designed to prepare students for meaningful careers dedicated to social change and community well-being. Accredited by the Canadian Association for Social Work Education (CASWE-ACFTS), the program emphasizes a holistic approach to practice that recognizes and advances human rights while addressing the diverse needs of individuals and communities. A key strength of the program is its strong focus on experiential learning, with students completing approximately 700 hours of field education in approved practice settings in Sudbury and beyond. The curriculum blends foundational and advanced courses covering areas such as social welfare, social policy, human service organizations, law, health, disability, and child welfare, alongside practical skill development in intervention, group work, and research. Students also explore specialized topics including Indigenous perspectives, addictions, and contemporary social issues, while developing strategies to promote equity and social justice. This combination of theory and hands-on experience prepares graduates to support individuals and communities while contributing to positive, lasting societal change.
