Human Services Foundations

George Brown Polytechnic’s Human Services Foundations certificate is a two-semester program designed to prepare students for further education and career pathways within the human services field. The program focuses on building strong academic and foundational knowledge through the study of psychology, sociology, and anti-oppressive practice, helping students develop a deeper understanding of human behaviour and social systems. Through collaborative learning and small group work, students gain the skills needed to engage effectively in diverse and inclusive environments.

The curriculum emphasizes critical thinking, communication, and research skills, enabling students to present ideas clearly and objectively while examining systemic barriers that impact equity and inclusion in Canada. Students explore the role of human services professionals in addressing these barriers and are introduced to a range of career options within the sector. Alongside academic development, the program supports personal growth through career planning, wellness strategies, and lifelong learning skills, equipping graduates with the confidence and direction needed for continued study and professional success.

• Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent.
