Dogs are cherished members of our family and pet parents have become increasingly interested in using holistic therapies, such as Canine Massage to complement Veterinary care for treating common injuries and conditions. Massage can be used as part of an overall prevention, wellness and fitness strategy, or to help dogs recover from a particular injury. Massage has its place in all stages of a dogs’ life.

Canine Massage Therapy Level I is suitable for dog owners and dog lovers who have either no massage experience or knowledge of anatomy, or have a basic knowledge and skill set. It is also required for any RMT wishing to expand into canine massage therapy. Participants will be certified to practice Canine Massage Therapy in Ontario, or simply be equipped with lifelong skills to increase the health and well being of a dog.

Part I of the course covers principles, history and benefits of massage, types of massage, canine behaviour and contra-indications to massage. Students will learn basic canine anatomy and physiology and massage techniques and how to apply them. Students will also be guided through a massage sequence and learn how to use their hands and proper body mechanics.

Part 2 of the course has the participant massaging a dog on their own and delving deeper into technique. Students will go further into anatomy and kinesiology of the dog and are guided through range of motion exercises. Students will cover necessary forms and how to work with clients. The course also covers canine nutrition, setting up a business and marketing, as well as the case studies required to complete the full certification.

I can’t thank RCC enough for all of their support while completing the RMT program. Their staff are deeply knowledgeable and truly care about your experience and success as a student. Their admin staff as well as the teachers are always available for extra help, questions or additional support if needed. The environment is warm, welcoming and you feel like you’re part of the family. The courses gave me everything I needed to write and pass my board exams, but more importantly, gave me the confidence to be a good and safe practicing RMT. Thank you again RCC, I will never forget you.

As a recent graduate of RCC, I’m very happy with the preparation I received here. The program is demanding, but it yielded results: I passed my board exams on the first attempt and was able to secure employment within weeks of receiving my reg #.

The instructors are experienced RMTs who are clearly invested in the profession. A huge advantage for me was the hands-on practice; the instructors were even willing to let us practice treatments on them to ensure our techniques were clinic-ready before graduation.

It is a smaller environment, which allowed for a close professional relationship with the staff. While every student's experience varies, I found that if you are committed to the work, the faculty goes above and beyond to support you. I’m grateful for my time at RCC and feel well-prepared for my career!
