Master of Arts in Fashion

Toronto Metropolitan University’s Master of Arts in Fashion program takes a critically informed approach to fashion studies by examining the broader social, cultural and economic implications of the production, promotion and consumption of fashion. Throughout the program, students develop advanced research skills and work closely with subject matter experts to complete a written or creative Major Research Project (MRP). The MA degree is earned after the completion of coursework and the MRP.

During the two-year program, students have access to mentorship, teaching assistantships, advanced technology, production workshops, an incubator-style zone, as well as research and creative support.

Students will have access to a range of specialized fashion and creative resources, including an academic fashion journal, interdisciplinary research hubs, and the Fashion Research Collection, which features more than 3,500 historical and contemporary garments, accessories, and objects. They can also explore fashion innovation through Fashion Zone, use advanced prototyping equipment such as 3D printers and laser cutters in the Collaboratory, and connect with start-ups and experimental creatives through the Design Fabrication Zone.
