The Pharmacy Technician program at Sprott Shaw College provides students with the comprehensive training needed to become integral members of the pharmacy team. Working alongside pharmacists and pharmacy assistants, pharmacy technicians play a key role in promoting health, managing medications, supporting chronic disease care, and ensuring the safe and accurate preparation and dispensing of pharmaceutical products. The program is designed to meet the entry-to-practice competencies outlined by the National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities (NAPRA), preparing graduates to operate confidently within the regulated scope of practice in Canada.
Students gain theoretical knowledge and practical skills through interactive learning formats, including simulations, role plays, labs, and real-world practicum experiences. Emphasis is placed on developing professionalism, communication, and clinical decision-making in a safe and supportive environment. Upon graduation, students are eligible to enter the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (PEBC) certification process and begin licensing with the College of Pharmacists of British Columbia. With growing demand across the country, registered pharmacy technicians are well-positioned for careers in community pharmacies, hospitals, and even the broader pharmaceutical industry.
