Students in the University of British Columbia’s MD program learn through a robust information technology system that allows instructors and students in many disparate locations to interact simultaneously, taking learning beyond classrooms and into clinics and hospitals in urban and rural settings. The distributed medical undergraduate program aims to improve upon the low number of rural and Indigenous students seeking medical careers, while also allowing students to complete their training in rural and underserved communities.

Clinical education in the Vancouver Fraser Medical Program (VFMP) is structured around traditional, discipline-based rotations in clinical settings throughout the Vancouver Fraser region. At clinical academic sites such as Vancouver General Hospital, St. Paul’s Hospital, Royal Columbian Hospital, Surrey Memorial Hospital, and other care facilities throughout the VFMP including primary care settings, students gain exposure to a variety of patients and problems typical of but not limited to large urban populations.

Admission Requirements

  • Preference for admission to the MD Undergraduate program is given to residents of British Columbia; however, a small number of out-of-province applicants are accepted each year.
  • Overall minimum academic average of 75% and out-of-province applicants with an overall academic average of 85%.
  • Minimum requirement of 90 university-transferable credits.
  • Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT).

What You’ll Learn

  • Foundations of medical practice.
  • Clinical education.
  • Clerkship.
  • Postgraduate education and practice.

Gorgeous campus one of the most beautiful. Did my bachelors of business and computer science here and could not have gotten a better education than the price point - also generous with bursaries. Professors are mostly competent, fun, and very engaged with student learning. Stellar professors in Sauder and computer science faculty. If you are into Greek life, UBC Sororities is an encouraging and friendly environment to make friends during university, dorm / res life as well. Like any university though, can be somewhat biased towards more conservative ideas - not allowing certain speakers to come to campus or allowing unnecessary protests to continue at these discourses. I think it’s important for a reputable university to allow the free discussion of open ideas as there are many international students and Canadian students from various backgrounds.
