Throughout Niagara College’s Construction Engineering Technology program, students acquire both theoretical knowledge and practical experience in key areas, including sustainable construction practices, cost control, and project management. Additionally, students participate in a unique on-the-job training opportunity, sponsored by an industry employer, which takes place one day per week during the final term of the program. This hands-on experience helps to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world application. Furthermore, the program fulfills all academic requirements for membership in professional organizations such as the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT), the Ontario Institute of Quantity Surveyors (OIQS), and the Ontario Building Officials Association (OBOA).

As a graduate of the Construction Engineering Technology program, students gain expertise in architectural and structural design, estimating, building codes, surveying, and project management.

What You’ll Learn

  • Construction estimating.
  • Architectural drafting.
  • Technical communications.
  • Structural drafting.
  • Sustainable construction.

After attending Brock University for four years and graduating from the Business Communications program I wasn't quite sure what I wanted to do next. We had a spokesperson from Niagara College come into our 4th year class to tell us about the Public Relations post-grad degree. I was turned onto the fact it was a one-year program that had a co-op/field placement to get real work experience in the field.

I enrolled in the program and it was extremely beneficial to my professional development. In university I learned a lot of theoretical and writing skills, but lacked a lot of hands-on experience. Niagara College got right into the meat of it and exposed me to a lot of things I never learned in university. We had courses that taught us how to use Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator, how to develop a basic website, writing for social media/PR and much more.

Overall I was extremely satisfied with my experience and I ended up landing a full-time job at the place I did my work placement at. Several years later I've moved along well in my career in a large part thanks to Niagara College's PR program.
