The Master of Science MD/MSc program helps students develop advanced clinical and research skills on the road to becoming a clinical scientist. As an academic clinician scientist, students will be equipped for a career that combines both research and clinical medicine. The integration of clinical and research training experiences provides opportunities to foster translational research. In keeping with the strategic direction of the Canadian Health Research Strategic Plan and the Government of Canada’s Science and Technology Strategy, the University of Manitoba program emphasizes the need for providing increased transsectorial and multidisciplinary training, building research excellence, translating knowledge into practical applications, and the deepening the pool of highly skilled clinician scientists.
The MD/MSc program is for students currently enrolled in medicine who then pursue graduate studies at the end of their second year, or for current graduate students who are accepted into medical school.
