The Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Techniques program at Mohawk College equips students with foundational skills and best practices essential for the industry. This hands-on program prepares participants to build, wire, and troubleshoot refrigeration systems, and helps develop competencies for successful careers in heating, refrigeration, and air conditioning. The first semester specifically prepares students for the provincial Gas Technician 3 (G3) certification, administered by the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA).

Optional certifications, such as Gastite and IPEX, are available at no extra cost, along with discounted rates for Working at Heights and Ozone Depletion Prevention training. Students gain practical skills in the safe operation of tools and equipment, electrical wiring, piping, soldering, brazing, and the installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and servicing of HVAC equipment. The program’s curriculum also includes courses in control systems, electrical and fuel applications, and heat load calculations. Through a combination of theory and hands-on practice, students are well-prepared for success in the field and to meet the demands of this ever-evolving industry.
