The Nurse Practitioner Primary Health Care (MN-PHCNP) program at Queen’s University is a two-year graduate program designed to prepare registered nurses for advanced practice roles in primary care settings. Through a blend of coursework, clinical placements, and research, students develop the knowledge, clinical reasoning, and leadership skills necessary to provide comprehensive care to individuals and families across the lifespan. Delivered in collaboration with a consortium of nine Ontario universities, the program combines in-person graduate seminars with self-directed online learning, allowing students to critically examine nursing theory, research, and clinical practice.

Throughout the program, students engage in continuous clinical learning and research, integrating advanced knowledge in pathophysiology, health assessment, diagnostics, and therapeutics. The curriculum emphasizes evidence-based practice, interprofessional collaboration, and the development of clinical expertise through multiple placements and an integrative practicum. Graduates of Queen’s MN-PHCNP program are equipped to lead in clinical, educational, and community health settings and are eligible to apply for the Canadian Family/All-Ages Nurse Practitioner Examination, positioning them to make meaningful contributions to primary health care delivery across Ontario and beyond.
