This program is a two-year, four level program that will ready graduates for jobs in growth areas of electrical engineering technology such as electrical contracting, factory automation, power line maintenance and process control. Students will study electrical fundamentals, automation, power generation/distribution and develop practical skills.

Graduates will be skilled in AutoCAD, hydraulic/pneumatic systems, PLCs and industrial automation. Throughout the program, students will apply this knowledge in conjunction with the Canadian Electrical Code, workplace health and safety and project management applications. Additionally, students will enhance their interpersonal and communication skills.

What You’ll Learn

  • Interpret and produce electrical and electronics drawings including other related documents and graphics.
  • Analyze and solve routine technical problems related to electrical systems by applying mathematics and science principles.
  • Use, verify, and maintain instrumentation equipment and systems.
  • Assemble, test, modify and maintain electrical circuits and equipment to fulfill requirements and specifications under the supervision of a qualified person.
  • Install and troubleshoot static and rotating electrical machines and associated control systems under the supervision of a qualified person.
  • Verify acceptable functionality and apply troubleshooting techniques for electrical and electronic circuits, components, equipment, and systems under the supervision of a qualified person.
  • Analyze, assemble and troubleshoot control systems under the supervision of a qualified person.
  • Use computer skills and tools to solve routine electrical related problems.
  • Assist in creating and conducting quality assurance procedures under the supervision of a qualified person.
  • Prepare and maintain records and documentation systems.
  • Install, test and troubleshoot telecommunication systems under the supervision of a qualified person.
  • Apply health and safety standards and best practices to workplaces.
  • Perform tasks in accordance with relevant legislation, policies, procedures, standards, regulations, and ethical principles.
  • Configure installation and apply electrical cabling requirements and system grounding and bonding requirements for a variety of applications under the supervision of a qualified person.
  • Assist in commissioning, testing and troubleshooting electrical power systems under the supervision of a qualified person.
  • Select electrical equipment, systems and components to fulfill the requirements and specifications under the supervision of a qualified person.
  • Apply project management principles to assist in the implementation of projects.

I completed two programs at Fanshawe. Mechanical engineering and mechanical design.

The school was outstanding, with down to earth profs who were friendly and knowledgeable in every aspect of their programs.

The labs are well equipped with up to date technology, which really helps students get an idea of what is to come in the workforce.

There are even free events for new and old students to attend, which really helps the sense of community the school provides.

If you’re considering mechanical engineering, I cannot recommend Fanshawe enough.

As a university graduate, the Advanced Filmmaking program at Fanshawe was an incredibly welcome change of pace. It’s allowed me to focus on the hands-on aspect of filmmaking that I did not have the chance to learn while in University. The shift from reading theories and essay writing to producing content and connecting with my fellow filmmakers was exactly what I needed.

The environment of AFM is a lot more intimate than the university experience. You are always working in groups to create projects and receiving constant feedback from the professors. If you want to learn the ins and outs making a film, and meet the people who are going to help you do it, there is no better place to go than Fanshawe’s Advanced Filmmaking program.
