The University of Ottawa’s Master of Education (Counselling Psychology) program provides students a foundations in theory, research and practice of counselling and psychotherapy. Students will learn to employ a variety of psychotherapy models and techniques to facilitate change in an ethical and professional manner while engaging in an empathic, genuine, and supportive therapeutic relationship.
Graduates work in educational institutions or in private practice, as career counsellors in government or for employee assistance programs. Some practice in not-for-profit organizations like addiction treatment centres and youth centres, mental health clinics, hospitals, or as researchers and academics.
Admission Requirements
- Honours bachelor degree in Education, Psychology, or equivalent with an overall average of 70% (B).
- Minimum of 5 relevant courses (15 credits) in social sciences. Three courses must be advanced psychology courses (i.e. 2nd year or higher). One of the psychology courses must be in personality theories.
- Be proficient in either English or French.
