The University of Manitoba’s Diploma in Dental Hygiene program prepares students to work as dental hygienists who serve the public in oral disease prevention and oral health promotion through a uniquely holistic approach.

Students will hone their skills through hands-on clinical experiences. Small class sizes and opportunities to work with real clients ensure students will be exposed to industry-leading work in all aspects of dentistry. In the first year, students gain exposure to clinical experiences. In the second year, students will provide community oral health care (tooth restorations, extractions, and dental hygiene cleaning) at a variety of locations.

After successful completion of the National Dental Hygiene Certification Board Examination, in Manitoba, graduates must apply to the College of Dental Hygienists of Manitoba for a license to practice as a dental hygienist. Dental hygienists must fulfill the requirements of the respective provincial regulatory authorities licensing bodies. The minimum educational credential for licensure in the province of Manitoba is the Diploma in Dental Hygiene.

UofM Nursing program is absolutely terrible. If you are interested in nursing, move to another province. The entire first year is just repeat of your prerequisite courses, and there’s barely nursing. A couple of the courses are useless to your career and a waste of your time and money, especially the course where they get sex workers to teach a class, force leftist ideologies onto you, literally tried teaching us there was more than two genders.
The deans are useless and have no leadership qualities whatsoever, most of the faculty are power tripping and treat the students like high school teenagers rather than adult learners. Definitely doesn’t help prepare you for the workforce. Absolute joke of College, not to mention the fact that they aren’t even located on the Bannatyne campus so there’s no interdisciplinary integration. I only have two stars because I met some good like minded people and we would drink before lectures just to be able to get through them.

This university allows me to live at home. Also, it's one of the best post-secondary institutions in Canada. The faculty for the program is great. The university also has collaborations with several hospitals in Ottawa. This allows for more clinical placements and more post-graduate opportunities. The course curriculum is a bit heavy. However, the professors are very understanding and try to make sure you understand the content well. The professors are always available after hours if you need more clarity. The university also offers study sessions for most of the more difficult courses.
