The Community Outreach and Workforce Development (COWD) department at Humber College has a mandate to support access to post-secondary education, training and the Canadian workforce for those who are under-represented in areas including newcomers, women, racialized persons, Indigenous Peoples, and youth.
COWD seeks to do this through collaborative partnerships with faculty and departments across Humber College, with industry, and with community stakeholders on a variety of projects, initiatives, programs and services using an assets-based community development (ABCD) approach. Program participants are valued for the assets they are able to contribute as they seek to further build their skills and knowledge alongside members of the College and broader community. Taking an ABCD approach ensures that all stakeholders are able to contribute and benefit from collaboration, with the ultimate goal of enhancing local social and economic growth and development.

I arrived in Canada recently and my main aim was to enter my industry of choice. This program was great to understand Canadian environment. It was also great to go ahead with job search and the mock interview is the best practice. The program encourages us to give presentations and improve our communication skills. I really recommend the program to my colleagues and any newcomers.

The Bridging program with Humber College really helped me a lot to kick start my career in Supply Chain Management in Canada. Having worked in another country for such a long time, I felt I needed to reinvent myself to resume my career in Canada. This program provided me a unique opportunity to refresh and hone my skills as well as build my first network of Supply Chain professionals. All the components of the program were very well designed and really helped me understand the nuances of the Canadian Supply Chain. The trainers and the faculty were very helpful, patient, understanding and highly skilled in their respective subjects.
