In just one year, you can develop the skills you need to begin a satisfying career helping in a long-term care facility, supportive housing, home care, adult daycare and palliative care. A full 100% of our graduates find employment, and employers are 100% satisfied with the personal support workers they hire from Sheridan.
What You’ll Learn
- Assist clients with activities of daily living, including meal prep, feeding and personal care.
- Understand and empathize with clients and their challenging situations.
- Lift and transfer clients.
- Increase your clients’ comfort, safety and mobility.
- Communicate clearly and compassionately with clients and report accurately.
Your training will include 350 hours (four full weeks) in two practicum settings, including a long-term care facility and your choice of community setting. Sheridan arranges your placements for you, and a faculty member supervises your Long Term Care placement. Field experiences often lead directly to employment after graduation.
All professors teaching in the Personal Support Worker program hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in nursing, and all are heavily engaged in the personal care field. They bring their own experience working in elder care to the classroom.
