0.1 (monthly change)

How do you earn a top-tier MBA without stepping away from your career – or your life?

For thousands of working professionals in Canada, the answer is a part-time MBA. These flexible programs, offered by some of the country’s top business schools, let you balance work, family, and long-term goals while advancing your career.

You can complete your degree over three to five years, on average, with classes offered in the evenings, on weekends, or online – whatever fits your lifestyle. And it pays off: MBA graduates gain the skills, credentials, and networks to move up in their careers, often with a notable boost in salary and job prospects.

To help you choose the right program, CourseCompare has ranked Canada’s best part-time MBAs based on flexibility, delivery format, specializations, and key success metrics like post-grad salary and employment rates.

Ivey Business School

part time mbas - ivey school of business western university
4.9/5
$ $ $ $

Western University, based in London, Ontario, has produced world-renowned business leaders for decades and has become a hub for developing the next generation of entrepreneurs. Founded in 1922, Ivey Business School specializes in case-method learning, essentially a simulation of a real-world experience where students must decide what to do. Roughly 1,300 undergraduate students and 300 postgrads study at Ivey each year.

In 2019, Ivey introduced a 14-month Accelerated MBA for Business Graduates (AMBA) program, a blended online MBA designed for working professionals in the GTA to “learn while you earn.” Covering the same core elements as Ivey’s full-time on-campus MBA program, the blended program aims to give more flexibility to student professionals who can’t make a move to Western’s primary campus in London, Ontario.

Among Ivey MBA grads, 92 percent of those seeking, received at least one job offer six months post-graduation. Their average base salary is $111,694, with an average signing bonus of $11,830.

What Students Are Saying

Ivey is a leader in business education, both locally and globally. I was looking for a program that would transform my approach to handling business challenges and opportunities through a hands-on methodology.

Charaka Kithulegoda, Executive MBA

What Sets Ivey’s Accelerated MBA Program Apart?

Ivey’s AMBA program combines the flexible principles of both part-time and accelerated learning into one, allowing students to continue to work full-time while completing their MBA in just 14 months.

The program kicks off with a week-long residence in London, followed by three days of in-class sessions (Friday-Sunday) per month in downtown Toronto, which complement online learning that you do at your own pace. This blended learning approach balances schedule flexibility with valuable in-person connection and networking with your cohort, which is typically about 58 students.

The curriculum covers 14 courses across three themes: Leadership Essentials, Innovation and Disruption (including an Ivey field project), and Global Business (including an international study trip at the end of the program).

University of Fredericton (UFred)

4.95/5
$ $ $ $

Based in Fredericton, New Brunswick, the University of Fredericton has extensive experience delivering online education, with faculty averaging 11 years of experience teaching remote learners. UFred’s School of Business offers a variety of degree and certificate programs for professionals, including an online MBA program.

UFred developed their online MBA program, which is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP), with a focus on providing a flexible alternative to traditional programs that don’t properly accommodate the realities of working professionals. Since launch, professionals from over 27 industries have earned an MBA degree from UFred while balancing personal and work responsibilities.

On average, 94 percent of MBA and EMBA graduates from UFred are employed within one year of graduation, with an average salary of $135,000.

What Students Are Saying

This is my second master's degree after completing the first at Wilfrid Laurier, so I know how a comprehensive program is structured regarding quality education. After hearing from some people in my company and military member contacts that they had attended Ufred and thought it was a great school, I investigated further. The accreditation was, first and foremost, most important, followed by the course details and the cost. All met my criteria, so I sent in my previous university transcript. I am finishing the capstone now, with April 11, 2025, being the last day of the EMBA. After 2.5 years, as a 49-year-old going back to school, what an experience. Writing 30 plus APA-based essays, reading over 25 textbooks, and taking exams was excellent. The experience has led to a refocus on academia, learning, and personal growth. I can wholeheartedly recommend Ufred as a top-tier university experience, but without having to do a residency. This has been amazing as an adult with a family living in a rural location far from any city. Thank you, Ufred.

Ross M, Executive MBA

What Sets the University of Fredericton’s Part-Time MBA Program Apart?

The MBA program is built on four pillars of online education: live virtual classes; collaborative group work; an online campus environment for students and professors to connect (including office hours); and a virtual library. Classes have a maximum of 25 students, providing lots of direct, hands-on instruction with every person in class.

Students can choose between 11 specialty streams to further customize their learning based on their career goals, from Global Leadership to Business Analytics Leadership. Every student also completes the program with a capstone project that allows them to deeply research a topic they are passionate about, which can be done remotely or via an international field study trip.

Taking one course per term, students can complete UFred’s MBA program in 3.5 years; taking two courses per term, students can complete the program in just two years. There is also the option to pay per course – with payment flexibility potentially making this degree more attainable for working professionals.

The marketing program was practical and prepared me well for my career. The school attracts a strong class of students and the network you establish will help you long after graduation.

Patrick Storr, Masters of Business Administration

What Sets Schulich’s Flexible MBA Programs Apart?

The ability to switch between full-time and part-time course loads based on what best suits your needs emphasizes Schulich’s dedication to flexibility and accommodation in its MBAs. Located in Canada’s business and financial capital, students can take courses at either of Schulich’s two campuses (North York and downtown Toronto).

Students can move through these programs quickly, completing the accelerated part-time program in 16-20 months – which is the average length of a typical full-time MBA. The regular part-time program typically takes about three years to complete, with both daytime and evening classes available.

Schulich offers 16 specializations for its MBA, including in-demand areas such as Business Consulting, Digital Transformation, Sustainability, and Health Industry Management, providing opportunities to further customize the MBA curriculum to your career goals.

Those who want to complete a full-time MBA while also working full-time can explore the Weekend and Evening MBA: The program takes the core elements of Schulich’s traditional, full-time MBA in Year 1, and combines them with a curated list of Schulich’s most popular MBA elective courses in Year 2, spread over six terms.

Located in Kamloops, British Columbia, the Bob Gaglardi School of Business and Economics at Thompson Rivers University (TRU) prepares students to excel in their workplaces and communities. Its MBA programs are designed to meet the moment, focusing on decision making in uncertain environments, ethics and social responsibility, and globalization.

From the beginning, TRU has offered flexible MBA options for busy professionals looking to upskill while working. Students are invited to “make your MBA your own”, with options to complete the MBA program online or on-campus, part-time or full-time, or combine course delivery options to fit their needs.

Among recent TRU MBA grads, 91 percent are employed in their field, with average total compensation of $117,997.

What Students Are Saying

I chose TRU’s MBA program for its flexibility and affordability, and on those fronts, it delivered. The option to complete the program online or in a blended format made it possible to balance work and study, and I appreciated not having to submit a GMAT or meet a strict work experience requirement to get started. Career support is there, but you’ll need to be proactive—this isn’t a program that hands you a job at the finish line. If you’re self-motivated and looking for a cost-effective way to earn your MBA from an AACSB-accredited school, TRU is a solid option. Just go in with clear expectations and a plan to supplement your degree with experience or certifications.

Reid Swaranson, Master of Business Administration

What Sets Bob Gaglardi School of Business and Economics’ Flexible MBA Program Apart?

TRU offers a flexible MBA program where students can choose to study full-time or part-time, and the program can be completed entirely online, on-campus, or a combination of both. Online courses are available to students residing in Canada and are made to fit around your schedule. The program also allows students to customize their learning experience, choosing between course-based, project-based, or thesis-based pathways. As a part-time student, you must complete the program within seven years of your start date.

No matter the delivery method, the program uses the case approach, business simulations, team projects, and guest speakers to engage students in the learning process, with global perspectives incorporated throughout the curriculum.

It’s a great program for anyone looking to balance their life while working towards their career goals.

Aneta Bojarowicz, Blended Learning Part-Time MBA

What Sets DeGroote School of Business’s Flexible MBA Programs Apart?

The Blended Learning Part-Time MBA is a three year program that offers a balanced approach to completing an MBA for the busy professional. Courses are adapted for those actively in the workforce, so that students can take what they learn in the classroom and immediately apply it. Classes are taught online and in person during weekend residencies, where students are required to attend class at the Ron Joyce Centre in Hamilton for three weekends per term. As part of a dedicated cohort, students have a greater opportunity to network and collaborate with peers, especially during the weekend residencies.

The in-person Accelerated MBA program can also be completed part-time, in two to three years. It’s designed for professionals who earned a BBA or BCom in the last 10 years from a Canadian or American institution, have at least two years of work experience, and want to fast-track their education by applying their prior learning credits to reduce their courseload. With just two required courses and eight electives, the program allows students to choose from five specializations, including Business Analytics, Finance, Health Services Management, Strategic Business Valuation, and Marketing, or they can choose to pursue a General MBA.

University of Calgary Haskayne School of Business

For nearly 50 years, University of Calgary’s Haskayne School of Business in Calgary Alberta has supported the development of future leaders, advancing business knowledge and practice through its academic research.

In addition to its regular MBA program, Haskayne offers an Accelerated MBA and an Evening MBA, varying speed to completion and course scheduling to accommodate various professionals’ schedules. Both flexible programs are offered in-person; faculty may provide supplemental tutorials online through the learning management system as part of class preparation or review.

On average, 91.4 percent of Haskayne MBA students are employed within three months of graduation. The average post-graduate salary is $117,000, or a 25.9 percent salary increase for those already employed.

What Students Are Saying

Every other weekend I and for one evening each week, more or less, I attended the Executive MBA program. I volunteered with CDL (Creative Destruction Lab) and got to know the local startup scene and made connections to business leaders and founders. The EMBA was a great experience and led to significant growth in terms of my mindset and outlook, connections and knowledge. It was worth the hefty price tag. I got a promotion with a 20% raise after graduating. My only caution is that I live and work in Calgary so I was able to leverage my networks to great effect. A friend and colleague had ambitions of moving to the US after his program and sometimes regrets not applying to a US college. As usual, the EMBA boils down to what you want to get out of it.

Frank T., Haskayne Executive MBA

What Sets Haskayne School of Business’s Flexible MBA Programs Apart?

Students prioritizing flexibility should consider Haskayne’s Evening MBA, a part-time program designed specifically for working professionals. The program typically takes students about 32 months or three years to complete, but can be either accelerated or extended over a longer time if the student’s situation changes. As the name indicates, courses take place in the evenings, in-person on campus.

That said, the school’s Accelerated MBA (AMBA) is also described as flexible, and can be completed while working. The AMBA was created specifically for graduates of a four-year undergraduate business program from a recognized Canadian or U.S. post-secondary institution. With just 11 courses instead of the typical 20, the AMBA can save participants up to 45 percent in tuition cost, as well as significantly reducing the program length (12-24 months).

Students in either MBA program can specialize in one of eight subject areas: Business Intelligence and Data Analytics; Entrepreneurship and Innovation; Finance; Global Energy Management and Sustainable Development; Management Analytics; Marketing; Project Management; and Real Estate Studies.

Located in Edmonton, Alberta, the University of Alberta (U of A) is one of Canada’s renowned research universities, known for focusing on entrepreneurship across disciplines, not just in its business programs. It is also one of a few schools to focus heavily on real estate business ventures. The Alberta School of Business was the first school in Canada to be accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) in 1968.

In addition to a regular MBA, which can be taken full-time or part-time, the Alberta School of Business offers an accelerated MBA program, referred to as the FastTrack MBA and also available part-time. These programs are delivered in-person, with some online asynchronous courses available. On average, 86 percent of students are employed within three months of graduation, with an average total salary of $95,233.

What Students Are Saying

I graduated from uofa with an economics degree and then worked for my my family's manufacturing business. After 3 and a half years, I knew I needed help taking the company to the next level but I needed to keep working. The online MBA was the perfect solution. After 36 months of studying part-time, I can say my business skills are beyond where I thought they would be. What I learned about leadership and operations I use every single day. I was surprised that I was also able to network and build relationships with my group even though I had the flexibility to choose a lot of my own courses as I went. The other reason I choose the program is because of the flexible start dates. I kept putting this decision off, so when I was finally ready, I didn't have to wait another few semester to get going.

Thomas Fidani, Online MBA

What Sets Alberta School of Business’s Flexible MBA Programs Apart?

The Part-Time MBA is a 20-course program designed to be flexible for working professionals, offering students an in-person program with the option to complete some (but not all) courses online asynchronously. In-person courses are primarily offered weekday evenings at the university’s main campus. Students typically complete the program in three or four years, but are able to take up to six years; alternatively, students can accelerate their part-time studies by taking more courses per term.

The FastTrack MBA program is designed for students who hold an undergraduate business degree, requiring them to complete nearly half of the number of courses compared to the regular MBA – a minimum of 36 credits (12 courses) instead of 60 credits (20 courses), including five core courses and seven electives. (Depending on final grades in core undergrad courses, students in the FastTrack program may need to complete up to 17 courses to meet requirements.) The program focuses on advanced management topics and includes intensive courses. When completed part-time, it typically takes 22 months.

In choosing electives, students can choose to complete their own customized program or complete the requirements for one of six UAlberta MBA Career Tracks or areas of focus, which include: Energy Finance; Operations & Business Analytics; Strategy & Consulting; Innovation & Entrepreneurship; Public Sector & Healthcare; and Real Estate.

You’re right in the middle of the city of Toronto and will get access to all of the major companies and events. As a former polytechnic, Toronto Metropolitan University has roots and is still focused on real world skills and job preparation. The university’s reputation has also grow A LOT in the past 10 years and many students in my class went on to work at reputable companies. They also did interesting work, not everyone went into management consulting or finance. At least 8 graduates I know have gone on to start their own businesses. Profs strike a great balance between theory and practice and all have decades’ of corporate experience to speak from. The elective options are also wide and varied. tldr: An MBA program integrated into the heart of Toronto with a lot of networking opportunities. Hands-on curriculum and experience that will set you up for interesting work a whatever field you choose.

Athabasca University

Athabasca University, Canada’s first online distance education university, was founded on a mission of openness and flexibility. In 1994, it launched the world’s first fully interactive online MBA program – paving the way for remote business education.

More than 30 years later, the AACSB-accredited program is globally recognized and built specifically for busy business leaders. Its flexible, online format is ideal for professionals with demanding schedules, including frequent travel or long hours.

What Students Are Saying

A comprehensive and excellent program for executives. However you better have great self discipline, as nobody will hold your hand and walk you through the courses. As with all things in life, you will get out of the program what you put into it. I would recommend taking an online English writing course if your writing is subpar as you will write a ton (you will read a ton as well), and if you are a slow writer you will have to work extra hard. Be aware, you will need to do three math courses (unless you are exempt) and two of them are absolute monsters (economics and corporate finance) - the first math course is managerial accounting and it is a difficult course but very good. Expect to watch a ton of online videos to learn how to do the course work if you struggle to learn math on your own and from a book expect to struggle. But if you work hard enough you will get through it! The MBA program is well respected across the country and it holds the highest level of accreditation for a business school. When I speak to graduates from other MBA programs, you will release how strong AU’s program is! You will also have instructors from all over the country whom teach at different universities as well or professors from across the world - many from the “best institutions”. One more positive is that AU has a huge MBA alumni and the networking among graduates is strong as they realize the quality of students coming out of this program!

Daniel Clement, Masters of Business Administration

What Sets Athabasca University’s Online MBA Program Apart?

Athabasca’s online MBA is designed for managers, professionals, and executives with work experience, helping them build advanced leadership and management skills. The program focuses on real-world applications, letting you bring your work scenarios into the learning experience for immediate impact in your workplace.

Athabasca offers four routes of entry into its MBA, including an accelerated entry route for those who earned an undergraduate degree in business within the last 10 years and have 3+ years of managerial experience. By acknowledging prior education and work experience, students in the accelerated pathway can graduate in as little as 19 months (and must complete within four years).

There are three program starts per year, in fall, winter, and spring. All online MBA courses are paced, meaning there are scheduled start and end dates, and assignment deadlines within each course – but the courses are asynchronous, meaning you can fit your studies around your own schedule. Students in each intake progress through the program’s core online courses as a cohort.

Athabasca also offers specialized online MBA pathways for executives, accountants, health leaders, and supply chain managers.

Lakehead University

Lakehead University is a dynamic, research-focused institution in Thunder Bay, Ontario that offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs across science, engineering, arts, and business. The university places a strong emphasis on hands-on learning, innovative research, and fostering leadership. Lakehead’s faculty is among the business schools that have achieved certification by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).

Lakehead offers full-time accelerated and part-time MBA program options, available to all students with no work experience required. The part-time MBA is delivered online, designed to be flexible and accessible with interactive online lectures and group work that foster networking opportunities.

What Sets Lakehead University’s Part-Time MBA Program Apart?

Lakehead’s part-time MBA program is structured to ensure students stay on track. Its synchronous components and deadlines provide ongoing motivation while also allowing participants to balance their work and family lives. The programming does not require regular time off work and won’t monopolize your weekends with classes.

Most classes are held virtually over Zoom. Some classes may also have a blended, hybrid format, with some students joining in person and some joining online – the in-person attendance is optional, and only for local students when space permits in the hybrid-friendly courses of the full-time MBA. If appropriate, some classes may have an asynchronous component, but this is not a fully asynchronous program. Live online lectures, breakout sessions, and group work within the Lakehead MBA allow students to interact and participate in the networking component that remains a critical part of the MBA experience.

The part-time MBA takes three years to complete. Students who start in the winter semester may require an additional four-to-six months to complete due to the scheduling of courses aligning with a Fall start.

Brock University’s Goodman School of Business is in St. Catharines, Ontario. Accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), Goodman emphasizes hands-on learning, leadership development, and global perspectives through international partnerships and exchange opportunities.

The Goodman School of Business offers an in-person MBA program with full-time, part-time, and accelerated study options.

What Sets Goodman School of Business’s Flexible MBA Programs Apart?

The part-time MBA program at Brock’s Goodman School of Business can be completed over four years, compared to the full-time option, which is typically completed in two years. The part-time program has an additional start time in the spring, on top of the fall and winter starts also available for full-time students. However, part-time students are not eligible for the optional four-month paid co-op, nor can they enroll in the international double-degree program, where you combine your MBA with either a Master in Management (MIM) or Master of Science (MSc) in France.

There is also an option to accelerate your studies: Students who have completed undergraduate or graduate courses equivalent to specific courses in the Goodman MBA may be granted advanced standing for up to five credits. Both full-time and part-time students are eligible for advanced standing.

Students can choose from six specializations, based on their career path and areas of interest: Accounting (CPA accredited); Business Analytics; Finance; Human Resource Management; Marketing; and Operations Management. Alternatively, they can opt to complete a general MBA, without specialization.
